NATURE OF WORK: Responsible for performing a combination of accounting and administrative support duties involving specialized knowledge of financial records and coding, inputting, and accessing information in Southcentral Foundation’s accounting system. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Accounting Technician I: Ability to follow detailed instructions required for maintenance of accurate accounting records. Ability to use a variety of office equipment and calculators Ability to work with customers in a positive, courteous and efficient manner to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with internal and external customers. Ability to politely handle clients/customers who may be confused, agitated, or hostile. Ability to work as an active participant in a team environment. Ability and skill to use a computer. Ability to make mathematical calculations with reasonable speed and accuracy. Ability to read, interpret and comprehend material, and to effectively explain such information to internal and external customers. Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards. Accounting Technician II: Mathematical knowledge sufficient to compute totals, averages and percentages of numerical data and to check or reconcile data. Knowledge of office procedures, methods and equipment sufficient to input and access information in computer systems as well as complete and assemble documents. Knowledge of accounting procedures sufficient to post, code and process accounting documents. Ability to create, read, and perform basic calculations in spreadsheet software. Ability to reconcile accounting records. Ability to handle a high volume of work. Accounting Technician III: Proficient in the use of a multi-function calculator. Ability to exercise independent judgment in solving problems. Strong mathematical skills as demonstrated by the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and to calculate percentages, interest, commissions, ratios, etc. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Advanced word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently to meet deadlines. Ability to provide accurate support in a timely and efficient manner. Ability to gather and analyze data in a statistical format. Ability to take initiative and work as an active participant in a team environment. Ability to research topics as requested and to organize and report relevant information. Ability to maintain and safeguard confidentiality. Knowledge of or ability to learn policies and procedures necessary for preparing records, documentation and mandated reports. Accounting Technician IV: Considerable knowledge of accounting principles, practices and procedures and their application to bookkeeping systems. Ability to accurately keep records and prepare statistical reports and analyses. Ability to analyze financial records and reports, locate errors and recommend solutions to procedural or other problems. Ability to train and supervise new accounting clerks as required. Ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form. Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations relating to the maintenance of financial records. Knowledge in the area of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and procurement. Ability to express ideas and give instructions effectively. Ability to work with customer in a positive and courteous manner to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to lead and work as an active participant in a team environment. Ability to conduct on-the-job training designed to improve the skill sets of employees. Above average problem solving, reasoning capability, and facilitation skills. Must be dependable, reliable, and be able to handle a high volume of work. QUALIFICATIONS: SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Accounting Technician I: High school diploma or GED. Accounting Technician II: One (1) year of accounting or two (2) years of clerical experience. Accounting Technician III: Two (2) years of accounting experience, including experience in one or more of the following areas; accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel, procurement, journal voucher preparation. Accounting Technician IV: An Associates Degree in accounting or business or a related field or equivalent training and experience.
