Idaho Youth Ranch seeks two Floor Supervisors for our Fairview Thrift Store. Some of the duties will include but are not limited to opening and closing the store, supervising, customer service and public relations, and assisting with general management of store. We will be filling a Soft- Line Supervisor position and a Hard-Line Supervisor Position.
THRIFT STORE FLOOR SUPERVISOR
Responsible to: Store Manager, Assistant Manager and Regional Supervisor
TASK 1 STORE OPERATIONS:
Opening:
1. Count the money before placing it in the cash register.
2. Assign chores from the daily cleaning list to staff and others.
A. Assist with the completion of this list.
3. Do a store “Walk-thru” with the manager to find out the priorities of the day.
A. Make a daily work list.
4. Check perimeter of the building for donations, and bring them inside.
5. Check perimeter for garbage or other things that need attention.
Closing:
1. Complete bank deposits and related forms.
a. See Procedures Manual.
2. Check messages on the computer and follow-up as needed.
3. Check perimeter of the building for donations, and bring them inside.
4. Secure the building for the night.
TASK 2 MEETING WITH SUPERVISOR
1. Set goals for the day with supervisor.
2. Complete supervisors work list in a timely manner.
3. Discuss with manager issues that need resolved. “Spread the Risk”
TASK 3 MANAGING THE STORE
1. Assist the Manager with assuring that the store is making its regular sales goals and it expenses is staying within budgeted guidelines by getting merchandise out of the backroom and onto the sales floor.
2. Assist the Manager with assuring that the staff is completing the regular monthly markdowns and season changeover in a timely manner.
3. Assist the Manager with the proper training of all staff and volunteers.
4. Give input to the manager on ways to increase sales.
5. Keep track of the pick-up and delivery schedule, making sure that all information is complete and accurate. Make sure that we are not over scheduling.
6. Assist manager in hiring qualified staff.
7. Learn all phases of the thrift store operation.
8. Give good customer service to all donors and shoppers.
TASK 4 STORE MAINTENANCE (Daily duties)
1. Clean counter area for a neat organized appearance.
2. Wash windows and doors
3. Check jewelry case, fill and straighten as necessary.
4. Clean and straighten sales floor.
5. Check dressing rooms to make sure they are clean
6. Clean and check clothing area, straighten and fill.
7. Check hardline shelves to make sure they are clean and organized, fill daily.
8. Check toy area to make sure it is clean and organized
9. Vacuum store
10. Clean up weeds and other debris around the perimeter of the building, as needed.
11. Sweep sidewalks and parking lots, as needed.
12. Clean break area and restrooms, and as needed.
13. Clean the as-is area.
TASK 5 CUSTOMER SERVICE:
1. Greet all customers as they arrive and leave.
2. Ring up all sales and offer each customer a receipt.
3. Handle all customer complaints fairly.
a. Inform your supervisor of all problems.
4. Offer assistance when necessary.
5. Take messages and give information.
6. Project a positive IYR image at all times.
7. Have a basic knowledge of all IYR programs.
8. Have a basic knowledge of the tax advantages of donating to the IYR.
9. Maintain a good physical appearance.
10. Answer the telephone in a friendly manner and offer assistance as needed.
A. Take messages when needed and deliver them as needed.
TASK 6 PICK UP AND DELIVERY SCHEDULING:
Pickups:
1. Fill out pick up slips, completely and accurately, as customers call.
a. Refer to the Procedures Manual for complete instructions.
2. Mark it down so as not exceed weekly limit.
3. Inform your supervisor of any large time consuming pickups.
Deliveries:
1. Fill out delivery slips, completely, as customers call.
a. Refer to the Procedures Manual for complete instructions.
2. Mark it down so as not exceed weekly limit, making sure to count it as 2 stops.
3. Inform your supervisor of any large time consuming deliveries.
TASK 7 PROCESSING DONATIONS:
1. Give a non-cash receipt along with information and tax guide to donors when receiving donations.
2. Place items in their proper locations in the back room
3. Clean, price and test hardlines and put them in the proper locations on the sales floor.
4. Price, size and hang clothing. Put them in their proper location on the sales floor.
5. Log in appliances when repaired units arrive.
6. Assist with the unloading of the distribution truck, as requested by your supervisor.
7. Keep area neat and organized.
8. Avoid double handling merchandise, “put it out or throw it out”
TASK 8 SUPERVISING
1. Keep all community service workers assigned to you busy at all times.
2. Assist Manager and Assistant Manager in keeping the workers busy at all times.
TASK 9 OUTSIDE THE STORE DUTIES
1. Attend “New Store” setups as requested by the Regional Supervisor.
2. Travel to other locations to assist with the training of other staff as requested by the Regional Supervisor.
3. Attend community functions that will increase IYR visibility.

1. Procedures Manual
a. This manual contains instructions for all forms used in the thrift stores.
2. Supervisors Manual
a. This manual contains all information needed to effectively supervise your staff.
3. Personnel Policy Manual
a. This manual contains all policies related to the thrift stores.
TASK 11 SAFETY
1. Wear gloves whenever lifting or carrying an item and whenever sorting through a box or bag of merchandise.
2. Practice safe lifting techniques.
3. Point out all unsafe practices to the employee as well as the supervisor.
4. Attend regular safety meetings.
TASK 12 OTHER DUTIES
1. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have a valid State issued driver’s license.
3. Driving record must be acceptable to the insurance company.
4. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
5. Must be able to work with little supervision.
6. Must have good communication skills and organization skills
7. Must have basic math, reading and writing skills.
8. Must have basic computer skills.
