You may even have your Class #3 Boiler Operators License (a plus!)? Your responsibilities will include managing and inspecting the areas of Electrical Power generation, Steam Plant, Water Plant, and Fuels System. You will have experience with Environmental issues associated with public works and land fill operations to include the proper disposal of refrigerators, computer/electronic components, batteries, transformers, oils, coolants and oil/coolant drums, to name a few. The City has an automated 600KW, 35/12 Caterpillar Generator that went online in 1992. Your responsibilities will also include being the contact for materials and parts needed to operate the utilities and to ensure that the required purchase order procedures are followed. You will posses the ability to work with the Finance Officer and Duty Sections to forecast the fiscal year budget, are organized and can use a desktop computer. Other responsibilities will include training and compliance with environmental spill planning and response, permitting and reporting requirements for ADEC, local, state and federal agencies (water, sewer, opacity, etc). You will schedule and assess manpower as needed to run the program effectively. Certifications, continuing education and licensing will also be your responsibility in this department. This is a small town of 650 residents, located on a river in rural Alaska. There is no road system - only boat, barges in the summer, and airplane access. This community is rich in Native culture and also manages a boarding school for 200 students, grades 9 through 12, for the outlying communities. They have a generator that runs this separate facility that also becomes the city's stand-by generator for emergency power. It is a manual Caterpillar with switch gear from the late 1950's/early 1960's.
