The International Au Pair Exchange is currently seeking qualified candidates to represent TIAPE in Bend, Oregon as a Local Exchange Coordinator (LEC). This is a part-time independent contractor position and is anticipated to begin in late fall of 2009. The International Au Pair Exchange (TIAPE) is a newly formed international cultural exchange organization based in Bellingham, WA. The organization is currently in the process of applying for sponsorship approval from the U.S. Department of State to become a designated J-1 Exchange Visitor Program sponsor of au pairs. As a designated au pair sponsor, TIAPE will match young adults between the ages of 18 and 26 from various countries around the world with host families in California, Oregon, and Washington. Au pairs will be placed with host families for a minimum of 12 months, providing live-in childcare assistance. During that time they will also attend academic courses at a local university or college and gain firsthand experience of life and culture in the United States. Each Local Exchange Coordinator (LEC) is vital to insuring the success of TIAPE’s au pair program. This is evident in the varied roles and responsibilities that an LEC is asked to support. Some of these key roles and responsibilities are: • Act as TIAPE’s representative in the local community • Actively seek opportunities to increase awareness of the au pair program in the community among parents and parent groups • Interview new TIAPE host family applicants • Provide ongoing program support to assigned host families and au pairs • Monitor assigned host families and au pairs to insure compliance with program policies and regulations • Organize and plan monthly au pair functions that highlight the community’s cultural offerings while helping the au pairs feel a sense of welcome and integration into the local community and American culture Becoming a TIAPE Local Exchange Coordinator offers a unique opportunity to work closely with your local community from your home.
