The Septima Clark Public Charter School is the first public charter school for boys in Washington, DC. During the 2009-10 school year, we will serve preschool (3 year olds) to 3rd grade boys from DC’s inner city. Our college preparatory mission provides an exceptional education that prepares our scholars for academic mastery and achievement. Essential Qualifications • Educator is completely committed to urban education and ensuring that every student excels. • Provide well-planned, high quality instruction aligned with DC Standards in Physical education and Health for early childhood/elementary. • Plan and implement lessons aimed to establish, improve, strengthen, and refine students’ gross motor skills, movement, and principles of performing various physical activities. • Support student growth and development in applying various strategies to performing physical activity. • Assess students’ growth and implement strategies to maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance through a physically active lifestyle • Develop students to demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance. • Support students in developing positive social interactions to support boys’ management of emotions and relationships. • Provide consistent, predictable, environment that supports social/emotional development. • Build strong, supportive relationships with students to foster positive social-emotional development and interactions. • Demonstrate high degree of comfort with boys’ learning noise and activity while ensuring good order and appropriate conduct. • Ability to manage time and pacing of instruction, including providing high interest activities through the extended learning day. • Achieve quantifiable academic results and outcomes for all students using norm- and criterion-referenced assessment tools. • Utilize assessment data to improve instruction and student skill mastery. • Create and foster a constructive environment by communicating and working in a positive, professional manner. • Implement all school policies, practices and procedures required by the Head of School or designates. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or equivalent, achieve Highly Qualified Status as required by NCLB before hire, a minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban elementary school. Salary is based on experience, certification, and educational attainment.
