Notice of Teaching Vacancy Positions: 1st Grade Teacher, 6th Grade Social Studies Teacher, Math Coach Teachers Applicants for this position must: 1.Plan and implement a standards-based program of instruction. 2.Make purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task. Demonstrate a strong grasp of subject matter. Lesson Plans are submitted weekly. 3.Plan and implements a differentiated program of study designed to meet individual needs of students. Recognize learning problems and makes referrals as appropriate. 4.Evaluate accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods such as teacher made tests, samples of students' work, mastery skills check lists, criterion-referenced tests and norm-referenced tests. 5.Create a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies. 6.Encourage student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits. 7.Develop, in accordance with district school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied. 8.Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time. 9.Provide progress and interim reports as required. Use effective oral and written expression to work cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their children. 10.Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other staff members. Attend staff, department and committee meetings as required. 11.Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics. Qualifications: Education/Certification: B.A. Master’s degree in Education preferred, but not required Praxis Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience preferred General Information: Salary: Commensurate with DCPS Teacher’s Salary Schedule Effective Date: Currently vacant, open until filled MATH COACH ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: �� Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching mathematics – including: �� teaching strategies; �� assessment of mathematics skills; �� interpretation of assessment results; etc. �� Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative mathematics practices through various activities such as: �� individual discussions (informal and formal); �� coaching sessions; �� demonstration lessons with pre- and post-discussion/analysis; �� study groups; �� staff meetings; and �� professional development programs �� Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner. �� Coordinate/facilitate instructional material pilots in mathematics. �� Maintain the confidentiality of school, teachers, and classrooms. �� Obtain prior approval from the Principal before distributing written communication and other media. �� Meet monthly with the other district Mathematics Coaches Qualifications: Education/Certification: B.A. in Education or Mathematics Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction preferred, but not required Praxis - Math Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience preferred General Information: Salary: Commensurate with DCPS Teacher’s Salary Schedule Effective Date: Currently vacant, open until filled dc
