IEP Aides must have completed two years of study at an institution of higher education or have obtained an associates (or higher) degree. Two years of study at an institution of higher education means the equivalent of two years of full time study (48 credit hours) at an accredited institution that provides associates or bachelor’s degrees. IEP Aide service providers may also be highly qualified paraeducators as evidenced by a passing score on the Para Pro. 2. If an IEP aide does not provide any instructional support services, but will only provide personal care services such as assistance with toileting, lifting or feeding, then the aide must have a high school diploma or GED. 3. IEP aides must be able to speak, read, write, and understand Standard English and carry out directions and instructions by the student’s teacher and/or principal. Bi-lingual IEP Aide service providers may be requested. 4. IEP aides must have successfully completed a minimum of twenty hours of training provided by the Contractor(s) including behavior management strategies and a review of classroom procedures. 5. IEP aides must demonstrate emotional and mental maturity as well as display an interest and a sympathetic attitude toward working with children. 6. IEP aides must be able to provide satisfactory work references and two satisfactory personal references. A satisfactory job related experience can be substituted for work references.
