Qualifications of Therapeutic Aide
1. THERAPEUTIC Aides must have completed two years of study at an institution of higher education or have obtained an associates (or higher) degree. Two years of study at an institution of higher education means the equivalent of two years of full time study (48 credit hours) at an accredited institution that provides associates or bachelor’s degrees. THERAPEUTIC Aide service providers may also be highly qualified paraeducators as evidenced by a passing score on the Para Pro.
2. If an THERAPEUTIC aide does not provide any instructional support services, but will only provide personal care services such as assistance with toileting, lifting or feeding, then the aide must have a high school diploma or GED.
3. THERAPEUTIC aides must be able to speak, read, write, and understand Standard English and carry out directions and instructions by the student’s teacher and/or principal. Bi-lingual THERAPEUTIC Aide service providers may be requested.
4. THERAPEUTIC aides must have successfully completed a minimum of twenty hours of training provided by the Contractor(s) including behavior management strategies and a review of classroom procedures.
5. THERAPEUTIC aides must demonstrate emotional and mental maturity as well as display an interest and a sympathetic attitude toward working with children.
6. THERAPEUTIC aides must be able to provide satisfactory work references and two satisfactory personal references. A satisfactory job related experience can be substituted for work references. All references and evaluations must be in the aide’s personnel folder file and subject to verification and investigation by the City Schools Director Office of Special Education Administrative Services. The results of any criminal background check is to be maintained in the file and copies of all criminal background checks will be forwarded to the Director of the Office of Special Education Administrative Services.
Therapeutic aides will have 40 to 60 hours of training in the principles of behavior management and appropriate methods of preventing or decreasing maladaptive behaviors.
Therapeutic aides shall have a Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification.

Compensation: 12.50 per hour on payroll not independent contractor
