The Learning Connection (a program of SERRC) is hiring a Summer Youth Employment Program Crew Leader who will mentor youth ages 16 – 24 on a daily basis to conduct work activities and develop job skills. Youth will be enrolled in a paid work experience that will last up to 200 hours. The Crew Leader will supervise the youth and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing the work projects around the city to be completed by the youth. Work projects will be developed by the Crew Leader in cooperation with partner agencies and employers in the community. The Crew Leader must communicate clear expectations and give daily constructive/respectful feedback to youth regarding appropriate work behaviors, accomplishments, and needs for improvement. The Crew Leader will be responsible for completing written evaluations of each youth's work performance and will inspect and train youth how to complete timesheets. The Summer Youth Employment Crew Leader position will end September 30, 2009. Position Qualifications: -High School diploma or GED required; college, technical training or teaching degree preferred -Alaska drivers license, required -Basic First Aid and CPR certification, required -Previous experience working with youth of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds -Demonstrated ability to mediate conflicts -Strong oral and written communication skills -Demonstrated ability to work independently -Ability to teach employability skills in accordance with the Youth Employability Skills (YES) checklist -Ability to supervise employees -Knowledge of Alaska child labor laws -Knowledge of community organizations, agencies, and employers -Excellent time management and organizational skills -Fingerprints for background check required For a complete job description and online application, refer to http://www.serrc.org/employment.
