Teach local ecology and activities to develop a sense of community and connection to the natural world on the shore of beautiful Lake Tahoe. Present a hands-on, experiential, inquiry-based program in earth sciences, astronomy, and water, wildlife and forest ecology, based on GBOS curriculum and state and national education standards. The Program Director leads and coordinates the activities of students, high school mentors, naturalists, and visiting classroom teachers participating in the residential outdoor school experience at Great Basin Outdoor School. Some responsibilities include: • supervise all whole-program activities, and be responsible for keeping activities on schedule • be responsible for safety and health supervision • train and supervise mentors/cabin leaders • develop and enhance curriculum • develop and enhance policy and procedures for the outdoor school • lead staff training, working with returning staff • keep accurate records of all program activities and events • liaison with the other program agents and teaching partners Qualifications: Residential outdoor school experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills, supervisory experience, natural history background.
