Background:
Major Projects is initiating a project to perform Measurement Uncertainty Recapture Power Uprates at the three Duke nuclear sites. These small power uprates use highly accurate instrumentation to allow power uprates within the current design and analysis envelope. Initially, the project manager will be responsible for project planning, scope definition, cost estimates, development of RFPs for outsourced engineering services, and preparation of funding requests. As staffing of the project team is completed, the PMs duties will shift to management of the engineering effort to prepare for plant implementations.
The individual will be based in the Nuclear Department’s Charlotte General Office, however travel to the three Duke nuclear locations will be required.
This position is responsible for managing project scope, time, cost, risk, and quality for assigned projects. This position is accountable for all aspects of assigned projects including maintaining effective relationships with customers and stakeholders, and gaining their trust and respect. This position is accountable for managing the resolution of quality issues, and completes assignments (proposals, project tasks, reports, etc) within negotiated budgets and schedules.
Specifc elements include:
Ensure project success,
Manage cash flow and achieve expected cash position,
Deliver completed project successfully and ensure all project measures of success are achieved,
Direct project controls activities or self perform according to project size/complexity,
Develop accurate estimates,
Conduct effective project meetings (project kickoff, customer alignment, status meeting, and progress review),
Provide meaningful performance related feedback/input to appropriate line management,
Assure project team members' understanding of performance expectations with relation to project,
Establish and manage effective change control and risk management processes,
Manage all aspects of contract administration, including management of subcontractors,
Manage the customer, ensuring effective business relationships are in place and trusted by the customer,
Establish project reporting and status for the project team, management, and customer,
Manage the invoicing process to ensure timely payment of invoices
Maintain effective relationships and interactions with customers and stakeholders,
Develop presentations for the customer, community outreach, management team and teammates,
Manage execution and compliance with EH&S and Quality programs appropriate for the project,
Manage the project in accordance with Policies and Procedures,
Develop and implement an effective project resource management,
Basic Qualifications:
Baccalaureate Degree in technical or business curriculum plus completion of five (5) years relevant experience, or Masters Degree in same plus completion of four (4) years relevant experience, or have completed at least ten (10) years relevant and equivalent experience,
Proven track record as a Project Manager, Project Control Specialist III, or equivalent on the following types of projects: Fixed Price, Time and Materials, and Cost Plus,
Working knowledge of personal computers and software applications with MS office application proficiency,
Proven track record of effective written communications; ability to compose basic as well as complex technical documents, formal letters, invoices,
Working knowledge of making oral presentations to large, diverse groups,
Proven track record of initiative and independence with a bias towards action,
Working knowledge of PMI Guide to Project Management Book of Knowledge®,
Working knowledge of the project environment; effective time management skills, demonstrated effective, assertive decision making skills, able to see big picture,
Working knowledge of project management fundamentals,
Working knowledge of the techniques needed to lead and influence others to work in a co-operative team-oriented environment with little or no reliance on authority to implement actions,
Working knowledge of how to quickly, and accurately analyze key issues or situations,
Proven track record of making sound, logical, and timely decisions even with limited information,
Proven track record of consistency between communication and behavior,
Working knowledge in maintaining constructive internal and external relationships while effectively navigating organizational barriers,
Working history of attentiveness and responsiveness in all interactions,
Receptive to other's ideas.
Communications are timely, tactful and to the right person.
Desired Qualifications
Proven experience working on highly technical nuclear projects and power uprate projects
Proven track record in managing a diverse group,
Proven track record of managing projects,
Working knowledge of licensing, permitting and other interactions with governmental agencies
PMP certification.

Compensation: $55-73/hr
