Job Description
An established MEMS company in the Boston area is looking for an Application Engineer with MEMS experience to work as its Automotive Product Manager. This is a highly visible opportunity for the right candidate to take a leadership role in defining, developing and launching new products. The individual must be capable of leading cross-functional project teams and taking complete ownership in the development of key next generation products. The successful candidate must have the ability to manage the decision making process required between interdisciplinary teams. Product marketing experience is preferred, particularly in the area of new product development and market introduction. He or she will be required to provide close customer support throughout the product development cycle, have effective interpersonal communications and report writing ability, work well in cross-functional teams, and adhere to rigid program schedules and cost targets.
Responsibilities
Champion and own all aspects and phases of product development and introduction.
Coordinate and direct company resources and third party developers throughout the entire product development cycle and be primarily responsible for the products success.
Drive project teams on product development particularly on cost and schedule metrics - and negotiate and manage resources with the appropriate functional teams to assure they meet project requirements.
Utilize sound business judgment to determine winning product solutions, and provide high level technical direction in product designs to implement these solutions . Ensure the closure and resolution of all cross-functional technical issues.
Analyze priorities, maintain product schedule and work with engineering and manufacturing to ensure that product development is progressing according to plan.
Discuss and communicate project status to project team members and to senior management resulting in influencing direction/decision/outcomes. Present necessary product briefings and prepare phase reviews.
Build and sustain project team spirit and drive; work to resolve differences and conflicts; initiate efforts to overcome project team barriers; act as a facilitator to ensure project team interaction is effective and results-oriented.
Assure products meet marketing / engineering specifications and to develop a successful launch process (datasheets, evaluation boards, third party support, manuals, brochures, training, etc.).
Participate in some of the companys strategic planning and building of the operational capabilities of design and manufacturing processes.
Required Skills
Bachelor's Degree in a related engineering technical discipline (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent). Graduate degree highly desirable.
Minimum of 10 years of proven experience leading and successfully completing engineering product development projects.
Proven knowledge and practical experience with product development, market requirements, product launches, marketing plans, competitive analyses and technology assessment.
Strong technical aptitude that allows the candidate to evaluate technical options.
Ability to work at a detailed level while maintaining and retaining the big picture of the overall product development quality.
Must possess solid analytical and organization skills, determine priorities and follow through on several projects simultaneously and complete them in a timely manner.
Very strong skills communicating with both external and internal clients including hands-on involvement in negotiating implementation tradeoffs.
Demonstrable ability to navigate complex environments and work with global and distributed cross-functional teams and effectively communicate priorities, delivery expectations, risks and concerns to senior management.
Project Management skills - include activities related to the general management and organization of projects from inception to completion (schedule development and planning, work task flow, etc.).
High energy and motivation level required to lead product development and support a fast growing business.
Creative and strategic thinker with a positive, action-oriented drive who is also a proven collaborator and team leader.
Strong leadership capability with intense drive and a sense of urgency.
Travel requirements: 25 40%.
