This individual will be responsible for monitoring wind turbine drivetrain performance, investigation and mitigation of turbine gearbox and sub-system failures, and develop programs to improve wind turbine drivetrain performance and/or reduce the cost of long-term operations. Responsibilities include: • Visit wind plants to perform root cause failure investigations on wind turbine drivetrain components. • Manage external professionals who provide technical expertise and project support in evaluation of operational and performance issues. • Organize and lead conference calls with suppliers to ensure their compliance with contractual obligations. Reviews supplier's root cause failure analysis and corrective action documentation. • Organize and manage product improvement programs designed to increase wind turbine performance and/or reduce operational costs. • Work with Procurement to develop and qualify second and third-tier parts suppliers. • Assists wind farm Operations and Maintenance personnel with other wind turbine infrastructure components such as but not limited to; yaw systems, pitch systems, and high-speed shaft couplings. • Adhere to effective internal controls. REQUIREMENTS • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience. • 7 years experience in heavy planetary and helical gearbox design and operations. • Demonstrated experience with power transmission of 2,000 HP capacity or greater. • Demonstrated experience in root-cause-failure-analysis activity. • Familiarity with various bearing configurations. • Experience with synthetic lubricants and high-performance oil filtration systems. • Familiarity with various condition monitoring technologies • Ability to climb 90 meter steel towers on occasional basis to perform root cause analysis investigation on turbine component failures. • Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. • Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, data management, CAD, and reporting systems. Must be able to use computerized diagnostic, analysis, and troubleshooting tools. • Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. • Possession of comprehensive writing skills for upwards reporting. • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Familiarity with mechanical testing equipment such as a borescope and various hand and power tools. • Must work well under pressure from job demands, multi-tasking ability essential. • Requires approximately 30% travel. Preference may be given to candidates with the following: • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering • Experience in wind turbine drive train design or operations. • Experience with AGMA. • Ability to speak, write, and understand Spanish.
