The Sr. (Lead) Engineer - Transmission Planning
Direct Hire Position with Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) in the Philadelphia Area.
Required:
• BS degree in Electrical Engineering with related experience commensurate with position.
• Eight or more years bulk power system planning experience.
• Advanced knowledge of the theory and application of power flow, short circuit and system dynamics as well as power system analysis methods
• Advanced knowledge of power system technologies such as series and shunt capacitors, SVCs, FACTS devices, Power System Stabilizers, Transmission Line up rates and upgrade(s), Breaker Ratings, and short circuit duties
• In depth knowledge of NERC and Regional Reliability Organization standards.
• Proven and effective mentor helping others perform complex studies.
• Demonstrated ability to visualize and solve complex problems, and guide / assist others to perform complex duties.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated strong analytical skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently.
• Significant experience with power system analysis and demonstrated ability to coordinate the activities of others.
Preferred:
• M.S. or PhD in Electrical Engineering with related experience commensurate with position
• Static and dynamic modeling of power system elements and loads
• Thorough knowledge of federal and state electric utility, planning, siting, and permitting requirements for electric generator and transmission projects.
• Advanced programming skills for development of analytical and automation tools for enhanced reliability criteria testing and screening
• Knowledge of PSS/E, MUST, and other power system analysis software
Essential Skills
Responsibilities:
• Perform power system analysis required in the development of the baseline Regional Transmission Expansion Plan.
• Identify and evaluate transmission system reinforcements required to resolve reliability and operational issues and to improve economic efficiency.
• Perform adequacy and reliability assessments for the Company system.
• Identify and assist with the development of new and innovative methods in the planning process.
• Prepare reports and presentations to support activities of the System Planning Division.
• Develop recommendations to management on the implementation of new bulk power facilities, programs, procedures, and policies.
• Develop and maintain the necessary transmission system models required for the development of the Regional Transmission Expansion Plan.
• Work with transmission owner staff in the development and refinement of the Regional Transmission Expansion Plan.
• Work with other member of the System Planning Division to solve complex engineering problems.
• Represent Company on industry committees, task forces, or stakeholder groups involving issues relate to planning and engineering.
• Be involved in the training, development, and mentoring of less experienced engineers.
