CONSTRUCTION PROJECT SAFETY COORDINATOR:

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Project Safety Coordinator is assigned to a primary jobsite and performs safety audits to ensure the overall quality and safety of the work environment, as well as compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The Project Safety Coordinator works closely with each Project Manager and Superintendent on site-specific pre-planning programs that focus on eliminating the hazards particular to each individual project. General supervision and guidance is received from the Corporate Safety Manager.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Strong knowledge of OSHA Federal Regulations, state and local safety regulations, policies and procedures
Hazard identification, corrective action follow-up and overall coordination of Site Safety activities, programs, and corporate initiatives to ensure the safety of site workers and the general public. In addition, be responsible for conducting on site safety inspections utilizing dbo2 program to ensure subcontractor compliance and communicates directly to the Project Manager.
Assisting in drafting of project safe working procedures and codes of practice.
Advising management on project safety matters.
Demonstrate field presence during construction activities ensuring that Superintendents and workers apply and implement hazard controls, while overseeing work activities to ensure compliance with Safety measures (safe working methods, proper use of equipment, protective clothing, etc.). Takes immediate corrective action for any unsafe acts observed, involving the company management and subcontractor management for immediate review.
Establish a system for subcontractor safety orientation on the project site and ensure that all construction personnel are properly trained in the companys site safety requirements and procedures and are trained in the basic OSHA regulations for construction.
Track and trend safety observations (good and bad).
Shall confirm company and subcontractor training/qualification records on site.
Involved on any investigation to develop root-cause analysis related to company and/or subcontractor near miss/accident/incident on the assigned project.
Review and approval of company and subcontractor Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for all aspects of construction-related activities.
Review and approval of company and subcontractor Site Specific Safety Plans
Represents the companys interests and responsibilities on task forces, committees, and outside agencies such as OSHA.
Produce and present safety and health topics/training at various safety related meetings.
Monthly inspection/calibration of safety related equipment (atmospheric meters, confined space entry equipment, breathing air equipment, etc.)
Safety assessment of site management.
Provide information to job sites on near misses/accidents/incidents that have happened elsewhere on similar sites to help generate safety consciousness within working sites.
Conducts field-monitoring activities associated with hot work permitting, excavation permits, crane operation, equipment loading/unloading, etc.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Educational and experience requirements include 4-year Occupational Safety degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related field experience. A minimum of two (2) years experience on a commercial construction site with thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations is required. Excellent organizational, supervisory and decision making/problem solving skills are essential.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to travel to their project sites, and client facilities as needed. Individual must be capable of climbing stairs/ladders and walking throughout a construction site. Able to sit for extended periods of time, working on a computer and/or paperwork.
