If the person selected is not affiliated with the Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA), he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work. DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Parks & Recreation HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday; between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. LOCATION: Fairview Recreation Center (Primary) and various Municipal parks and facilities. Positions are Seasonal from 5/26/09 - 8/14/09. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES The YEP Crew Expeditor will facilitate and maintain equipment and gear for youth employees who work within the YEP program. This position will be responsible for tools and gear, inventory, purchasing, some paperwork and making sure crews have appropriate gear for work projects in a timely and efficient manner. Responsibilities will include obtaining, organizing, maintaining and distributing supplies and equipment to the youth employees at their perspective job sites throughout the summer. Daily duties require coordination with crew leaders, field educators, the program coordinator, and related staff and community resources (content experts). Experience driving passenger van while pulling a trailer helpful or must be willing to learn. Must demonstrate desire for change, be flexible and have enthusiasm for outdoors and YEP goals. The YEP Expeditor position requires the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Public parks and recreation programs in Anchorage parks system. Outdoor leadership practices using environmental stewardship principles and procedures. Public and private agencies who work in the natural resource industry. Customer service skills. Cash handling procedures and purchasing experience. Hand and power tools, their uses, and basic repair skills. Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / SUBSTITUTIONS / SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and 6 months experience leading, directing, supervising, coaching, or teaching children and/or adults at a recreation facility, a childcare facility, a childcare program, camps, educational institutions, therapeutic recreational programs, team, organized youth programs, or other similar programs. Must possess a valid driver's license. NOTICE If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160[10]). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $54.25 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work.
