If the person selected is not affiliated with the Alaska Public Service Employees – Local 71 union, he or she must become a member in good standing within 31 days of beginning work. DEPARTMENT Anchorage Parks & Recreation Hours of Work: Varies - 4/10's Monday - Sunday; 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Preference will be given to returning seasonal employees. Positions are full-time, seasonal until approximately 9/27/09. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Operation and maintenance of equipment such as 2,000-3,000 gallon water tank, loader/back hoe, boom mower, trailer towing, small dump trucks (5-8 cu. yds.), plus all job related assignments listed for the Parks Caretaker I. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / SUBSTITUTIONS / SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or equivalent, and three years of applicable turf maintenance, landscape, flowers, trails, or other grounds maintenance experience. Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Tanker endorsement. NOTICE If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Tanker endorsement and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant. As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug screening prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with § 40.25 and § 382.405(f) and (h). Seasonal employees accrue seasonal leave at a maximum rate of 5.31 hours per pay period, exclusive of overtime and prorated on actual hours worked, based on an 80-hour pay period. Unused seasonal leave is cashable at 100% redemption rate at the termination of seasonal employment. Accrued seasonal leave expires with the termination of seasonal employment and cannot be carried forward into another employment period. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background investigation (AS 12.62.160[10]). Accordingly it will be necessary for the selected applicant to provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted. Fingerprint cards must be dated within 30 days from date requested. The processing fee of $54.25 plus the cost of being fingerprinted (variable), is the responsibility of the selected applicant and must be accomplished before beginning work. Interviews will include written, verbal, and practical examinations. The exams include items such as (but not limited to) lifting weight requirements, identification of plant material, identification & proper usage of tools & equipment including driving vehicles & equipment. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Must be able to work with other staff members as a team. Must be able and willing to do manual labor.
