This is a non-represented position (no union affiliation). DEPARTMENT: Maintenance & Operations HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; hours may vary. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Organize, plan, direct, control, and manage operations of the Street Maintenance Division within the Anchorage Roads and Drainage Services Area (ARDSA). Duties include but are not limited to management of winter and summer maintenance of Municipal Rights of Way, streets and trails throughout ARDSA. Responsible for the management of the Street Maintenance Division annual budget for labor and material expenditures. Respond to inquiries from the public and coordinate with all regulatory agencies and other Municipal Departments. Responsible for implementation of safety programs and employee training to ensure a safe and efficient work force. Must be able to drive light duty vehicles, use cell phone and two-way radios. Must possess strong personal computer operating skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel. Attend public meetings with the ability to speak and represent the Municipality in a professional manner at all times. Ability to address irate citizens and resolve conflict. Must have the ability to effectively prioritize and assign tasks to subordinate supervisors and the ability to determine if work assignments are being carried out in a safe and productive manner. Prefer knowledge of Municipal Code, MASS Standards, Design Criteria Manual Standards, NPDES water quality standards, OSHA CFR standards and other regulatory agency standards which pertain to the daily operation of the Street Maintenance Division. Must be able to work for extended periods of time during inclement weather or natural disaster. Serve standby periods for extended periods of time as required. Work night shift for extended periods of time as required. Must be able to work and safely operate a motor vehicle in severe inclement weather. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / SUBSTITUTIONS / SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or equivalent and six years of progressively responsible project management work experience two years of which must have been at the lead or supervisory level in street and/or drainage maintenance. Must possess a valid driver's license. Within 30 days of hire, must possess a valid Alaska Driver's License, Standard First Aid and Adult CPR certification cards, and current Work Zone Traffic Safety Certification. If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant’s Alaska Driver’s License and a current (dated within 30 days from date requested) copy of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska Driver’s License was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history.
