Position Description: Night Dispatcher Location: Fort Greely, AK Close Date: 06/25/2009 FLSA: Non-Exempt Supervisor: Business Manager Summary Answering and dispatching Emergency and non-Emergency call for assistance while monitoring both Fire and Police alarms systems and may give medical instructions. This position requires concurrent use of a computer-aided dispatch system, computerized phone system and computer operated radio system. Persons occupying this position may also be responsible for monitoring multiple radio channels and answering 911 telephone calls for service simultaneously. Employees work in a high security environment that may be fast paced. Essential Functions • Receives emergency and non-emergency calls and in-person requests for information and assistance. • Operates a dispatch console to log incoming requests. • Directs related information into an automated system. • Perform daily routine clerical functions. • Additional duties requested by supervisor. Requirements • High school diploma or equivalent plus six months data entry or on the job computer experience. • Six months (6) customer service experience or experience working with the public. • One year multi-line telephone experience is preferred • Must obtain and maintain a security clearance and • Must be available to work, nights, holidays and weekends • Must be able to successfully pass required Hazwhoper certification, First Aid/CPR and Medical Emergency Training. • Requires in-state and out-of-state travel for training. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Ability to type 40 WPM. • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Windows. • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing with attention to detail. • Ability to remain calm and professional while questioning callers, who may be verbally abusive, emotionally upset, uncooperative or frightened. • Ability to work in a high pressured and structured environment. • Ability to take direction, work independently and as part of a group. • Must be able to sit for an extended period of time and wear a telephone headset. Physical Demands Frequent sitting, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus); occasional walking; standing for up to 4 hours; occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Work performed in a professional office. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear.
