I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG, http://www.imsg.com/) is looking to hire a Coral Program Specialist to serve as an International Coordinator in the Coral Conservation Division of the Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM), which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The position will be located at the OCRM headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland. The candidate will serve as a program specialist for international coral-related matters, supporting activities under the NOAA Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP, www.coralreef.noaa.gov/). Duties will focus on program coordination and development, strategic planning, partnership building, and implementation of select projects that benefit coral reef conservation outside of the United States. This is primarily a program development and coordination position with most duties being performed at OCRM’s headquarters. Limited domestic and international travel may be required. Responsibilities: The contractor’s duties will include, but not be limited to: • Leading the development of an implementation plan to achieve the CRCP’s new international goals and objectives (http://coralreef.noaa.gov/wgroups/welcome.html) • Supporting strategic planning efforts, including identifying priority topics and geographic regions, developing performance measures, and evaluation of historic, current, and potential future CRCP international investments • Advising and recommending to senior CRCP leadership international coral-related endeavors, projects, and partnerships • Leading and coordinating CRCP’s support for international activities with a focus on the wider Caribbean, Micronesia, Samoa and the Southwest Pacific, and the Coral Triangle Initiative region • Assisting with the administration of the CRCP’s International Grants program • Developing new and expanding existing partnerships with international and foreign governmental and non-governmental entities to further coral conservation consistent with the CRCP’s new international goals and objectives • Ensuring that all relevant reporting is completed for various CRCP agreements and statutory mandates • Participating on behalf of the CRCP in several NOAA internal and external working groups, councils, and committees • Supporting activities by the parent Coral Conservation Division and Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management Qualifications: Required: • Master’s degree (highly preferred) or bachelor’s degree with equivalent additional experience in a relevant discipline such as marine science, biology, marine or environmental management or policy • 2-3 years experience working in the international arena on coral reef (highly preferred) or natural resource management or science • 3-5 years post-graduate work experience in coral reef-related scientific or management positions (may include the 2-3 years required international experience) • Thorough understanding of coral reef ecosystems, their threats, and strategies for their conservation • Strong verbal and written English skills • Ability to work well individually and cooperatively with a range of individuals that are geographically separated and that represent a range of different cultures • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to shift priorities as needed • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office programs Strongly Desired: • 2-3 years of program development and project planning experience • Experience working in a matrix organization and/or demonstrated ability working in team settings • Experience working in a governmental work environment To Apply: Applications accepted until the position is filled.
