...and tomatoes, cucumbers, squashes and pumpkins?
we do! and we hope you do too!
hi friends!
myself and roommates kirsten and jeremy recently moved into a fantastic old farmhouse near mt. tabor and are searching for one more lovely person to complete our house of four! do you love the sun? the garden? BEANS? chicky chickens or kombucha critters? This bright house has the most wonderful south facing windows and garden (really, can we call it a farm?) and this summer we are looking forward to all the food that will be grown here! We would like to create a bit of an intentional community feel within the household as our home becomes a place to ground, to recharge and to energize for everyone. If you are interested in yoga and/or meditation, we have a space that is dedicated to these kinds of growing activities :)
here are some house highlights!
*big bright roomy house with 4 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms (practically one per person!)
*did i mention there is a garden? :D
*musics! piano ~ violin ~ sitar ~ guitar ~ ukelale ~ kazoo too ~ a harmonium coming in the near future (and we would really love some drums!)
*yoga/meditation space on top floor
*crafty nook for sewing machine and such
*jacuzzi bathtub in "little cabin" bathroom upstairs
*sweet front porch
*as they say "uber-efficient" front loading washer/dryer ... and they sure are swanky (they'll sing when you open the door!)
*nice floors throughout: new bamboo up top, original hardwood and tile on main, and yummy wool carpet downstairs (new!)
*household membership to People's Co-op
*free yoga classes from a fresh graduate of the Bhaktishop's Yoga School
*close to mt. tabor and on se bike routes
*one cajun kitty named Jaida
whew! so if you look at the pictures below you'll see first, the giant window in the downstairs bedroom. the available room is downstairs in the finished "basement" but i can hardly call it that as there is tons of light, fully finished all around, and 100% dry. The construction is less than a year old (but has had the portland rain test this winter -- passed with flying colors!) and I have been told (by the fellow who built the space) that it is one of the best spots in the house -- cool in summer, warm in the winter. there is also an additional living space that we can all create together... into??? who knows! and there is a separate door leading right to the middle of the garden.
and now a little nutshell version of us:
sarah (of the first person):
Originally from the southern lands, I’ve been here in southeast Portland for the last three and a half years (and 27 years here on planet earth). I adore the sun and the outdoors... mountains and rivers and woods are my friends along with the sweet sweet garden! Celebrate the sun! Celebrate the garden! Celebrate the power of the bean! Oh yes, I do love beans, yes I do. My heart sings for beans, and yoga, and kirtan (yoga singing!). When the mood strikes I also like to earn some extra pennies selling garden-inspired jewelry. I studied sculpture and installation art in college and sometimes i'll dive into involved studio projects... slowly trying to re-awaken the college-era artist inside :) Also i love learning about permaculture, medicinal herbs, ayervedic medicine and all the great energetic practices. Just this week I’ll be graduating from the Bhaktishop's yoga school (teacher training program), so I would love to practice my teaching for anyone who wants to play guniea pig! This summer i hope to organize some free neighborhood yoga classes either at the house, a park or in the garden ~ free yoga for all! If I were a kitchen utensil it’d be a cast iron skillet. And if I were a vegetable, I’d be a beet, but since i'm not a vegetable, i'll be a human bean. How about you?
I am looking forward to having dinners with housemates, neighborhood potlucks, free neighborhood yoga classes, and hosting kirtan at the home after I get a harmonium. Jai Ma!
kirsten (of the third person):
Kirsten is a 25 year old who has just moved to Portland. She completed her undergrad last May and finished an internship with a world music festival. She has spent the previous year traveling and living in an intentional yoga community in the Santa Cruz mountains. She enjoys music (listening to and playing), reading, singing, meditation, kombucha, gardening, cooking, vintage stuff, sewing, crafts, yoga, tennis, tea time, cribbage, jars filled with spices, the New Yorker…
She loves to be a part of her community and likes to stay active and busy. Balance is an everyday practice (work in progress :)
Looking for people to play humble music with.
She has really enjoyed Pranayama and would like to maintain this. Always looking for more people to practice with!
and Jeremy (again in the first!):
I'm a new Portlander (only been here a few days), and have found myself here on gut instinct after nearly a year of traveling coast to coast to coast, again and again, playing music and seeking magic. Most recently I was on Orcas Island, WA recording and hanging with farm folks, and have decided to settle in Portland for a while (years?) to rest my gas-pedal-weary foot, ride my bike, write whispery chamber music, play piano!, read a lot, meditate, learn to balance on a slack line, and work simply enough to make those things happen.
I'm 23 if that's of any relevance...some things I'm into: Any and all instruments, varied sound, unique combinations of folk instruments, astronomy, ecological history/progression, wool socks, avocados, apple cider, rocks, hiking, sleeping outside, tasteful lighting, tea of all types, organic food and the growth thereof, people who love what they are doing, long-term writing projects, integrity, strength and honesty of character, being barefoot, traveling internationally, being in the north, asking questions, fog and rain, 70's lamps, complex films, really good headphones, etc.
***
and so that's us!
if you are interested in checking out the place and meeting us, please send an email our way! (and please include a phone number) we are looking for folks to move in as soon as possible and move-in costs will be first month's rent and a security deposit. house utilities will be split evenly four ways. also, at the landlord's request, we cannot have any more cats or dogs (one's the limit) although "farm animals" (outside!) would probably be okay. we look forward to hearing from you!
cheerio!
