About us: Me, a 28 yr. old health-conscious, creative single mama/self-employed health counselor/cook/gardener/music lover/yogini/avid student of life and my 9 week old beautiful, calm son are looking for a loving community/home in SE/NE Inner PDX. We are quiet by nature (he a little less quiet than me given that he is a baby ☺), love being outdoors (hiking, camping, walking through the forest and parks, gardening), and are fond of animals. I grew up with many dogs and cats and thus have no problem with animals in a home and would love living with them as long as they are well-behaved, clean, gentle and good with babies. We do not have any pets of our own, though. I cook almost every meal (organic, local, seasonal food whenever possible) and we enjoy cooking and sharing meals with others and would love to be part of a community/home that enjoys this too. We are not vegetarian (he the plump breastfed babe) but respect others’ ethics around this, as I used to be vegan and macrobiotic. And we recycle whenever possible. I used to make kombucha and would like to do this again, as well as bake bread and other delicious domestic pursuits. We tend to be early-risers and enjoy quiet time in the mornings (without tv or loud music); this also means that we go to bed early and would appreciate living with housemates who either do the same or are quiet in the evenings. I have a steady meditation and yoga practice, and I can tell that he will like this too. For now, he just watches. I am a photographer, crafter, reader, writer, knitter and traveler. I recently lived in Mexico for two years, working as a nutritional counselor at a women’s retreat center, and apprenticing with a local herbalist/midwife/wise woman. And yes, I speak Spanish. I’d love to learn the guitar and would be interested in living with people who enjoy playing music and doing art projects around the home. I also study herbal and natural medicine and make tinctures, salves, lotions and teas. *We are ready to move as soon as possible, but hopefully by the beginning of August. The Ideal Housemates: We are looking for a home with people who are respectful, loving, low-drama, conscious, kind, compassionate, open-minded, creative, responsible, clean/tidy (but not anally so), good listeners, patient, participatory, friendly, non-smokers/drinkers and honest. Having small gatherings is fine, but we’re not into living in a party atmosphere. (This is beginning to sound like my list for the perfect man…but that’s another story) The Ideal Home: The home itself will have lots of natural light, preferably east and north facing windows, a garden space, a private bath with tub, a large kitchen with good quality, working appliances, as I teach cooking classes and want to use the space about once a month for this purpose. It also will have a washer and dryer, hardwood floors, wi-fi, happy energy to it, cheery colors on the walls, and/or the ability to be creatively decorated. It’d be great if it has an outdoor seating area, like a front porch w/ hammocks or backyard. We’d like to in a quiet neighborhood, close to grocery stores and public transportation (although I do have a car), and it’d be amazing to be near a New Seasons or co-op, as those are our favorites! Oh! And the library. Our favorite areas of SE/NE are Laurelhurst (Belmont and Hawthorne), Clinton/7-Corners and Alberta Arts. Our payable price range is from $300-600 for a room. **Ok…this is getting to be ridiculously long, so I’ll just close by saying: There are a lot of people out there who have posted ads for roommates and houses that would fit these requirements, such as the bounty and blessing of living in Portland. My son and I are good people, looking for our “family” within the SE/NE Portland community, and while most people do not consider living with a baby, it could be the best thing that ever happened to you…wink.wink.
