Train Maintenance Engineer:
o Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment, using handtools, power tools, and precision-measuring and testing instruments:
o Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
o Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, handtools, and power tools.
o Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
o Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, using handtools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges. Repairs or replaces defective parts, using handtools and power tools.
o Installs special functional and structural parts in devices, using handtools.
o Starts devices to test their performance. Lubricates and cleans parts. May set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
o May repair electrical equipment.
Key skills and requirements for the role include:-
o Good technical knowledge covering electrical, mechanical, plumbing and vehicle building skills.
o Educational background in mechanical or electrical engineering
o Prior experience in mechanical or electrical engineering a must
o Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance instruction (VMI) and working instructions.
o Competent in the use of schematic drawings and the ability to work to written technical instructions.
o Basic IT skills.
o Prepared to work shifts including days, nights, weekends & public holidays.
o You will have relevant technical competence in the rail industry with experience in maintenance management, processes and techniques.
o Knowledge of safety and compliance management processes with detailed knowledge of relevant standards and procedures.
o Knowledge of operational railway environment and functional disciplines.
