POSITION SUMMARY: Provides technical direction and leadership to all environmental monitoring, investigation, and remediation projects performed by the company. Establishes standard operating procedures, evaluates methodologies, and oversees collection and analysis of defensible environmental data. Supervises and mentors junior and mid-level engineers and scientists. Supports project planning, scoping, and estimating efforts ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: • Ensures adherence to all safety practices and procedures while performing or supervising the performance of tasks in all work areas. • Supervises assigned staff and provides technical support to projects. • Generates quality work product in accordance with company quality control protocols. • Prepares written reports and other documents necessary for the completion of specific projects. • Trains and mentors lower-level staff. • Prepares and/or supervises the creation of proposals for future work. • Coordinates and supervises scientist, geologists, and engineering during performance of field activities. • Researches and/or supervises the research of scientific and regulatory databases, maps, literature review and any other library research pertinent to the establishment of the background information for conclusions and recommendations. • Performs and/or supervises the performance of analytical field tests, using field test kits, probes, and other often sophisticated field instrumentation. Must also perform and supervise the performance of calibration standardization, repair and maintenance of equipment. • Serves as “key personnel” (Senior Project Scientist) for Navy Remedial Action Contract (RAC). QUALIFICATIONS: • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with superior verbal and written command of English language. Must be able to review and edit reports and proposals. • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. • Excellent organizational and communication skills. • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. • Ability to handle, maintain, and utilize field instruments, sampling tools, and sample containers. • Detail oriented, hands on experience in environmental field and analytical work. • Firm understanding of the hydro geological, geochemical, and biochemical processes underpinning environmental work. • Firm understanding of the regulatory processes driving environmental investigation and restoration work. • 40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training (HAZWOPER). • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution and at least seven years experience in environmental work. PREFERABLE EXPERIENCE: • Prior work on federal government projects and/or contracts • Master Degree studies • Professional registration • Experience in supervision of scientific staff.
