Makai Ocean Engineering is hiring an Engineer, Physicist, or Applied Mathematician with a graduate degree and very strong skills in numerical modeling of complex mechanical and hydrodynamic systems. Working with the lead developer at Makai, the candidate will be brought up to speed on existing complex numerical models developed in FORTRAN (and some C++) used in the commercial and military sectors for towing and/or installing submarine cables or arrays. The candidate will initially work on a collaborative three-man team to maintain and extend the capabilities of Makai’s mechanical/hydrodynamic models, but over time it is expected he will take the lead of this group. Most work will be done at the Makai Research Pier, located in Waimanalo, Hawaii but infrequent international travel may be required. Requirements: Graduate degree in engineering, physics, or applied math with experience in numerical modeling. Desirable assets include excellent communication skills with the ability to write progress reports clearly and concisely. Applicant should be a team player and be self motivated.
