The Nurturing Center is seeking an entrepreneurial, energetic chief executive to build on our exceptional 31-year record of providing supportive, respectful services that strengthen families, increasing the number of children raised in healthy, nurturing environments. The Nurturing Center was founded in 1978 and is governed by a 9 member board of directors. The organization’s annual budget is $1.3 million from government contracts, fees for service, private donations, and foundation/corporate grants. Under the general direction and oversight of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for developing and managing the organization’s annual budget, administration, personnel supervision/staff development, resource development (grants, contracts, and private donations), program development/planning, and Board relations. Ideal candidates for this position will share our commitment to children and families, and will bring a variety of abilities and qualifications to the Nurturing Center, including: Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures that appropriate systems are in place to facilitate the day-to day operations of the organization in the development and delivery of programs and services, outreach and marketing, policy development, administration and operations. • Oversees all programs, activities, and physical facilities to ensure that programmatic and strategic objectives are met and are proactive, demand-driven, and focused on measurable outcomes. • Researches, negotiates, and manages private grants, government contracts, fees for service, and other funding sources to ensure the sustainability of the organization. • Promotes the Center through public presentations, media relations, and other marketing/PR activities. • Implements and oversees fundraising activities, including special events, annual giving campaigns, and donor cultivation. • Carries out the vision and policies of the Board of Directors, and provides appropriate support and information for the Board to meet its governance and fundraising responsibilities and fulfill intended outcomes. • Prepares and monitors annual budget, payroll, and other financial activities, and manages annual general and contract-related audit processes. • Hires, evaluates, supervises, and terminates as needed all personnel, and ensures that staff is supported with the resources required to fulfill their responsibilities. • Serves as liaison and representative with interagency organizations and statewide networks. Required Abilities: • Organizational and managerial skills to ensure effective operations and supervision of staff • Knowledge and skills to manage the relationship with the Board of Directors • Knowledge and experience in nonprofit fiscal management, fund accounting and budgeting • Delegate authority to staff members as appropriate • Network effectively and diplomatically with stakeholders and colleagues, including governmental leaders, community groups, state associations and networks, nonprofits, governmental funding organizations, and business and foundation representatives Minimum Qualifications: • Five (5) years relevant experience • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution • High level of energy and enthusiasm Preferred Qualifications: • Background and experience in the field of early childhood education/child development • Bachelors or higher degree in social/human services or an allied field • Knowledge about the principles of nonprofit management, organizational structure, and supervisory experience • Fund development experience to include grant proposal development, annual campaigns, special events and donor cultivation • Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communications and interpersonal relations • Knowledge of marketing and public relations • Experience working in a nonprofit organization, including supervision of staff and working with a board of directors • Creative and strategic thinking skills Compensation: • Compensation and benefits are negotiable based on qualifications and experience.
