Currently Sandia National Laboratories is in need of a Technical Editor intern during the summer of 2009. Applicants should be undergraduate students (or recent grads) with education and experience in the area of technical writing and/or science. The intern will support the senior editorial staff in developing and revising technical documents and formal work control documents. The primary responsibilities of this internship will involve taking draft copy from subject matter experts and rewriting/editing the content, thereby creating coherent, polished final documents, which are reflective of the standards applied to other documents we publish. Required/Desired Criteria: The ideal candidate for this internship is currently making satisfactory progress towards a Bachelors degree in English, Technical Writing, Journalism, Engineering, or some sort of science, and presently has course work and/or direct work experience in composition and/or editing of technical prose. Candidates must have experience with PC based word processing and publication systems including MS Word and Adobe Acrobat, be able to work in a collaborative office environment, have the ability to meet strict deadlines, and be self-directed on projects within their abilities and authority. It is desirable (but not required) to find an intern with direct experience working within the field of engineering and/or scientific writing. Familiarity with jargon in the areas of the nuclear power, defense nuclear facilities, and/or nuclear physics is a plus.
