We are actively seeking to fill a Biologist based out of our Albuquerque, New Mexico office. This position will assist in all aspects of report preparation using skilled aspects of field biology and natural resource management including field data collection, and associated project-related tasks. This position is a regular, full-time hourly position. Pay will be based on individual qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities for the Biologist position include: Enter information into a database for later interpretation; Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools during fieldwork; Locate existing reports and other documents for materials to be included in documents to be written by project managers and assist with report production; Assist project manager at public and/or agency meetings; Photograph appropriate habitat, species, and landforms, and collection and other procedures; Monitor project areas during construction or other activities that could be destructive to habitat or potentially hazardous to endangered or threatened species; Identify Southwest vegetation to species; Work closely with SWCA`s other managers and directors in both natural and cultural resources throughout the company to promote SWCA`s business interests in adherence to its mission, vision, and values.
Qualifications:
Minimum of BA or BS in biology, botany, environmental sciences, natural resource management, or related field. 1-3 years of experience in related fieldwork. Familiarity with NEPA and ESA, excellent writing skills and ability to record accurate field notes required. Candidates must be able to travel and be able to conduct fieldwork for long hours, in sometimes inclement weather conditions, including walking up to 10 miles per day, often in rugged terrain, and be able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. Ability to take initiative, resolve problems, and ensure tasks are completed in the most effective manner. Flexibility and willingness to learn company procedures, and ability to try new, improved techniques. Ability to work as member of a team and independently to make decisions and complete tasks in the most effective manner. Aquatic biology or water resources experience a plus.
