SWCA Environmental Consultants is an employee-owned company of cultural and natural resource scientists and planners. Our professionals specialize in natural and cultural resource management, sustainability services, environmental planning, and regulatory compliance. SWCA is actively seeking to fill one or more Cultural Resources Technician positions within our Cultural Resources Program for our Anchorage office. These are project specific hourly positions and the candidate will typically work 40 hours per week depending on workload. Overtime may be possible. Pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience. Applicants should have a minimum of six months experience working as a field archeologist in Alaska. Preference will be given to applicants possessing knowledge of Alaskan history and prehistory. Some exceptions may be made for applicants that can demonstrate experience comparable with the level of work required. Responsibilities: Responsibilities of a Field Technician include: • Working in the field under the supervision of a Crew Chief; • Conducting archaeological monitoring, survey, testing and data recovery; • Contributing to team efforts during cultural resources field and lab work; • Maintain efficient use of time; be able to effectively work as a team player; follows directions • Assisting with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units (knowledge of TerraSync and ArcPad is a plus) Qualifications: Knowledge and experience with archaeological survey, excavation techniques, and methodology is required; site testing and monitoring experience is ideal. A Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field is required. Only applicants with an accredited Field School Certification or equivalent experience will be considered. Candidates must be able to travel and be able to conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather conditions, often in rugged terrain and sometimes at high altitudes, and be able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds. When project travel is required, lodging and meals or per diem will be provided. .
